For one thing, it would make each game with it have more variety, as you’d get different accelerators each time. I might also throw in a Spellbook, so you don’t have to discard all the time. I also like the idea of Karona as the general, and just having both Phelddagrifs in the deck, especially since it opens up Zedruu to be in the deck. I really wish Zedruu were green instead of red, since the monk hugs everyone. Also, Command Tower is a great land for any EDH deck that doesn’t have a colourless commander.

Instead, of being a "hurt everyone" deck, though, I'm treating it like a "tough love" deck.

You see, my friends and I have never finished a game of 3+ EDH. Takes too long. So, I'm making the Group Thug deck with Rohan of the Fomori as the Commander. It still has the nice blue and artifact card accelerators, as well as red mana flares. However, it also has some mean red cards to speed things up- Impatience, to encourage casting spells. Invasion Plans and Curse of the Nightly Hun force opponents to play aggressively, rather than just sitting there. There's also White & Red board-wipers, in case things get stalemated.

Is it a deck that wins? Who knows. Filled with random cards that hurt or help others randomly, it's anyone's guess. However, if it made the other players make choices and not bide their time, it's done it's purpose.

My online Group hug deck is commanded by Karona, what's more huggy than sharing your commander? I have Changelings and defenders for the creature base, walls for the reason you describe and Changelings so they get the Karona bonus no matter what's chosen, in case I'm the one needing to block. I also have some "levelers" like Gravity Well, so the soldier guy doesn't get trounced by teh Dragons quite so easily. With all the draw (and because it's 5C) I did add Spiteful Visions as my WinCon. Late game when the Mine, Kami, Flourishing, etc are all out and everyone is drawing 5+ cards/turn, I can drop that if I decide to try for the win (usually with a single obnoxious opponent online that went after the weak guys and now we are the only 2 left). Old School items include Veteran Explorer, Noble Benefactor and Concordant Crossroads. Such fun.

you should add in Hunters' Feast, any number of target players each gain 6 life.

I really enjoyed getting a primer on how to group hug as I've been considering building a similar deck. You may have already considered this, but one card I was thinking about was Liege of the Hollows so that wraths don't leave everyone boardless. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff up soon!

I run an Intet the Dreamer group hug that focuses on powering up my opponents and then using their power against them – my favorite play is Trade Secrets, Tempting Wurm, Insurrection. Second place goes to Rite of Replication + Twincast + Echo Mage + Reverberate + Reiterate twice.

Speaking of which, Trade Secrets is a hilarious card that you should run in any blue deck that wants to have fun, and Reins of Power is great for surprising your opponent that just dropped their entire hand of creatures. Constant Mists is really great – some decks really have NO answers, and you can just keep fogging; Spike Weaver and Dawnstrider are also good repeatable fogs.

In Phelddagrif especially, I strongly recommend Psychic Posession. Bonus points if you get it out at the same time as Teferi's Puzzle Box.

I hesitate to use the label, but this almost seems like a trolling. I've never played an EDH game in my life, and even I know the concept behind a 'Group Hug' deck.

I enjoyed reading this article, because in part I'm looking forward to breaking into EDH/Commander someday, and silly, fun 'group hug' effects that make for a memorable and hilarious game are more important to me than straight-out winning in this sorta format.

Have you never had a memorable game where you actually ended up losing?

Have you ever scooped a game to give a friend a chance at a tournament, or IDed rather than playing it out so that you both made it in?

That kind of mentality is what this deck is about. I don't play it all the time by any means, because I do enjoy winning, but this is a good deck to play when your friends have all decided it's time to make sure you don't win any more games that night, or when you just want to relax and cast some spells that do fun things.

Playing a deck like this every once in a while will go a long way towards improving your group's outlook on you if not everyone is as win-oriented as you are, and thus make it easier for you to win when you're playing a more competitive deck, as well.
