I went to a local shop and scooped up some zombies and tokens and have played a rough deck today. I was thinking this could be like D&D with various quests and levels. Now I’m reading this and hope to learn from it and maybe report back with something fun. My family was already thinking about a halloween horde deck with witches, cats, rats, bats and more.

Thanks for this format. It’s a lot of fun for a change from head to head.

The problem is that I don’t think they’re going to want to tweak their decks to take out Moat, No Mercy, Aether Flash, etc. I think a banned list is helpful. Another poster on a previous thread suggested that banned cards would have Cycling: 1 – I think that’s a great idea although I’d take it a step further and say:

At the end of each player’s turn, if any player has a banned card in his hand, he exiles that card face up, then takes the top card of his library and puts it in his hand.

tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can
be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views.
I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

Both do a great thing for Horde Magic in potentially resolving any issues of the horde being too weak later in games, and increase the flavor of the horde deck and variant, which is half the fun.

My preferred horde builds are all about the flavor – obviously zombies, as I’m quite into The Walking Dead; but also dragons as a Skyrim / Reign of Fire experience; saprolings, because in Fallen Empires, the elves used saprolings as a food source until the fungi overran their civilization; and slivers, because I think the slivers swarmed multiple times in Magic’s history, but I know less about that. They just seem like good horde deck villains.

Currently I have a terminator horde (3/3 and 9/9 golems, along with the splicers and other nice artifacts like darksteel forge), but I’ll be building a raid variant now as well. I’m thinking of one where they battle through the armies of heaven and hell as they fight it out, and finish it up with some big bad demon.

Raid sounds like a really cool addition to the horde rules, I’m definitely going to have to try it out at some point.
