Yes. I did this with all of my paper cards newer than 1995 a few months ago and put it all into MTGO investments. It’s awesome having very few actual Magic cards 🙂

Thanks for your comment, Vincent. You can sell bulk at GP’s, but only a handful of stores there will buy. Many have to fly to these events, so they can’t afford to carry thousands of additional cards back with them. The trick here is to find the local vendors at the GP and see who is paying the most for bulk.

Selling the forces seems good to me 🙂

I personally don’t care for set collections. I think it’s better to sell individual cards as they increase in price if you have the time.

Also I have 3 force of wills that are still in the pack un touched what might be a good way to sell these at a premium since there un played…

as for standard stuff I now Have 4x of each of the rtr block sets is there any bounus to selling them as a set? or am I really just missing the oportunaty of selling individual cards when they peak?

Duals have a lot of value to EDH players, but they grow in value slowly. Let’s put it this way: which will grow faster in the year to come? Breeding Pool, Misty Rainforest, or Tropical Island? I believe having 100$ in Breeding Pools will yield the largest % gain, followed by $100 in Misty Rainforests. Tropical Island is likely to gain the least % in the next year.

That’s the financial reason why I sold. Opportunity cost.

For playability – yes, I want to have Goyfs and Bobs to play with in Modern because I love the format. Now that these are going to be (slightly, temporarily) cheaper I can buy back in to play with them again. In the meantime, I’ve been more than happy playing Melira Pod, a Tier 1 Modern deck which runs neither. But having the option to play the 4-color Jund deck would be fun to try.

I don’t agree with this approach you took, but to each their own (Duals have a lot of value to EDH players). Why not just sell your forces, wastelands, sneak attack, show and tell that have their value completely tied to legacy?

In addition, you’re planning to buy goyfs back soon right? I just don’t get the logic selling reserved list staples for cards that WOTC willingly wants to reprint and devalue (unless you plan on using your goyfs).

But now you don’t get to play the best format…

Christopher,

Yes, it absolutely feels like the right thing to do. It’s such a relief to know I’ve cashed out at a favorable time. Even if Duals continue to rise over time, I am convinced I can obtain better returns elsehwere with this money. The opportunity cost, along with the reduced risk both make this feel like the right choice.

Thanks for your comment!

Sig

I would love for them to reprint him. Perhaps in a FTV: Overpowered Banned Modern Cards People Love to Play With.

I pulled the trigger and sold my legacy collection as well this past week. With so much Modern support by WotC, and Legacy staples being propped up by SCG events, I felt I could use the funds elsewhere. While duals probably won’t go down anytime soon, the amount they will rise wasn’t enough for me to hold onto them.

Yeah that Jace guy always seems to get in the way. When will Wizards make him a Judge promo already? Better yet, make him a GP Promo and watch your GP attendance skyrocket.

I like Baleful Strix and City of Traitors as much as Tezz. Underground Sea may keep some from playing though.

Yeah, that is very encouraging for the format! I seem to recall the midwest often having strong Legacy turnouts. The new winner is also refreshing, though I can’t imagine hating that deck out would be too difficult?

Btw, just because I sold out of Legacy doesn’t mean I can’t target specific cards to speculate on (Tezz for example). But I’m pretty sure Underground Sea won’t see a massive price jump because of the tournament :).

Plus we had a semi- new winner Tezzeret.

Selling to these dealers was hassle-free, no fees, no shipping, and no disappointments with card condition. With a major sale like 40 Duals, I’d much rather deal in person. With the GP and my preparedness, I was able to sell out of these lands to buy lists while still getting around what I probably could have from eBay. Thanks for the offer, though.
