To a previous poster’s point, your home or renter’s insurance can cover this for like an extra few dollars a year. I recommend loading all of your cards into the TCG collection software and printing off a copy that includes collection value and all of your cards. IF your house burned down or something else terrible happened, you can log into TCG and provide the most recent list and pricing.

I’d say any collection worth over $1000 is probably worth doing this for, just like your jewelry or other valuables.

I live in a damp area. After a long hiatus, when I picked Magic back up again, I dug out my old cards… turns out that some sort of soft-wood loving bug had gotten into them, and eaten away. FORTUNATELY, I had already sold off all the really valuable stuff, so nothing of great import was chewed. But I now have about 5000 cards that would have had a value of around $1000 that have massive damage and are covered in bug feces. If anyone else cares enough, I can try to post pics over in the forums.

My son has just started walking a couple and I didn’t think anything of it. Left the door to my office open. Now we know that foils chewed on makes babies look like they are wearing stripper lipstick and I’m out a foil delta.

Nothing like this guy but… I was buylisting a stack of about 50 cards last weekend. Mostly dollar cards, but I also had an extra set of 4 Voice of Resurgence. I left them on the couch and went to dinner. When I got home my dog had knocked them over. I noticed one of them had a bite mark, then noticed quite a few more were destroyed. Probably about 8 total, but you guessed, it all four Voices were obviously eaten beyond repair. RIP.

Back before EDH existed there was a format called 5-color. It was a 250 card deck with contract from below and all that jazz. Anywho, I left my entire deck outside by accident in a parking lot. That same night it rained hard and the deck got ran over by cars repeatedly. I still have a gnarled Academy Rector that has been the topic of many conversations, sitting in my binder.

My bird has gotten a hold of a few of my cards before and bit through the edges, luckily nothing to expensive. But nothing to this degree. This was really painful to look through.
