In any case, I hope they realize they need to start a bit smaller and build over time. Unless they have bottomless pockets, going that big that fast will lose a lot of money. The MTG community (and gaming in general) tends to work by word of mouth a lot. Most game shops aren’t in highly visible locations (to save on rent) but we find them anyways.
Run some smaller tournaments successfully, and people will talk about how good of a job they did.

Why do people keep thinking they can start that big with lots of success. I judged on some of these events, I demonstrated board games on some of these events. Attendence was so low, the events were one time events and never returned.

As a judge, I was on such an event with 5000€ money prize. The people that were there could all split in first round and take profit!

I think the fact that most people didn’t hear about this until it was over may have contributed to low attendance. I feel bad since Reuben was really pushing hard for this event and no one cared. Maybe don’t have a tournament the week before Christmas?
