This week the people at Vice put out their short documentary about Magic for their American Obsessions series. The installment focuses largely on Jacob Wilson, but also features Magic players from every level of the game.
The documentary can be found here. Be warned though, if the sight of unsleeved Volcanic Islands and Ancestral Recalls being shuffled around sounds like something that would make you uncomfortable, then this one might not be for you.
I didn’t know about this. Thanks Ryan! Will watch this weekend.
dude looks SO uncomfortable with that novelty check.
I actually hated the part at the beginning where they interviewed some young, attractive, female player. In 15 years of playing, I’ve maybe seen 10 girls playing the game that were as attractive as her. It’s simply intellectually dishonest. I get that they want to attract women to the game, and want men to think that attractive women are playing, but this just isn’t reality. Women showing up to a tournament simply isn’t commonplace. Magic has an image problem to some extent, but this isn’t the way to fix it.
How attractive you find a person is not indicative of their worth or place in the community or any content you encounter. Calling this “intellectually dishonest” is completely out of left field.
I would also have you know that Thea Steele is quite established in the Magic community, being a former writer for SCG and an Invitational Top 8 competitor. Not that this matters, because your complaint is of a toxic nature to begin with.
