Mark Rosewater's blog Blogatog is a forum that he uses to answer player's questions. Often enough, Blogoatog throws out some information pertinent to sets not yet released. Recently, Mark was asked a question regarding mana dorks.
Q: carloszero asked: Why are recent manadorks more than 1-cmc? The only exception is Elvish Mystic.
A: Development has come to the realization that they are little too strong at one mana.
This statement is being interpreted as stating that Birds of Paradise will not be in Origins. Of course, you have to wonder if it's not a red herring with Rosewater. Perhaps they came to this realization after Origins was submitted, or decided to give it one last go anyway. There's no way for us to know for sure, but this is as good a signal as any that there won't be a BoP reprint.
If this set doesn’t have BoP or Lightning Bolt it may as well not have the name Origins.
OMG. This set was never going to have BoP or Bolt. Anyone that thinks this set has anything to do with going back to the origins of the game has deluded themselves. It’s structly a set to tell the story of five planeswalkers that are crucial to the story going forward.
If those cards are in the set there will be a story reason and I don’t remember lightning having anything to do with Chandra.
We probably won’t get Lightning Bolt, but I’m optimistic about maybe Incinerate. It’s only marginally better than Lightning Strike and they’ve already got a Chandra-themed art that they used in the Jace vs Chandra deck.
It has more to do with it being the last Core Set and there being a history there. By no means did I ever think it had anything to do with the game’s origins.
Lightning BOlt just showed up in MM2. Why would they put it in a core set when it’s clearly too strong for Standard?
Utopia Tree incoming.
