It wasn’t during the 5/1-6/1 period, but it is for 6/1-7/1. See that newer article here:

Absolutely! Metagame articles are some of my favorites to write, and I’m happy to see others enjoy them too. Let us know if there’s any other content you want to see.

Love the how to build articles as well, and how certain decks stand in the current meta game. this is a great site for competitive modern players to gravitate to, and we appreciate your hard work and time on this site 🙂

Grixis Delver sort of stole our thunder, people that enjoy that kind of deck saw all the hype around Grixis and built it. The deck still feels strong, although the prevalence of bolt and Kommand make Mentor itself weaker, the deck still has a good matchup against all the twin variants, and grixis delver feels 50 50. Jund is a bit worse, but still very winnable.

Absolutely! Sorry it wasn’t clearer up front. I think it’s a very strong deck in the right hands, and it has the results to prove it. But the ban talk around it is just ridiculous, as are discussions of the deck that lack context around WHY the deck might be overperforming. I think we are on the same page on all that.

Glad to hear the info is helpful!

Thanks for the answer.
I am glad that you made that clear. And I am sorry for getting it wrong, but the stuff I have been hearing from all kinds of forums about the deck contains no valid arguments at all to say the least.
Keep up the good work. I personally feel that those kinds of articles help me a lot on my current local meta store and maybe on a higher scale in the future.
Regards.

The deck has all the building blocks for tier 1 status. It’s just missing the prevalence and GP piece. Also agree on replacing Pod with Company; that was a great move.

2) It’s interesting that Jund and Abzan are in this place where both decks can be viable, depending on the overall metagame. That’s a healthy spot for the format to be because it means there are two kinds of “police decks” to keep stuff in check. I wonder if we’ll see an Abzan Liege more tailored for beating Jund.

3) Sorry: I meant that last line more as a joke than anything else. I think it’s a great deck but I also don’t see it winning those 3 events. That said, I think it will T8 at least one of them, but it probably won’t win the whole thing.

1)I believe that collected-abzan company is already tier 1 in terms of the game. I understand though that breaking into tier 1 in the official lists needs rising on popularity so I will keep it here. I have to give my congratulations to Wizards though for banning Pod and finding a legit way to reintroduce the archetype the proper way.
2) I am glad that Jund is on the rise because as you said earlier a possible unban on Bloodbraid could possibly disturb the format. Jund seems to enjoy at least 55% matchups everywhere-both Burn & Bloom are 50-50 matchups, while Abzan had below borderline matchup against them. And of course, as you state, the arch-enemy of the deck, Tron just became better than it was and there is hope against it now.
And as Jund is on the rise, Abzan will not be on the lows since players love a strong archetype that counters the same time the most popular archetype out there. Jacob Wilson made a clear point out of it piloting Abzan Liege at the FRFPT.
3) I disagree on the statement made about Amulet that could win all 3 GP’s. I think that you are overestimating Amulet Bloom a lot. I am playing with it some time now, I know its lines, and although it is the most rewarding deck out there, with Jund on the rise and Fulminator Mage that comes with it, all kinds of Twins in the meta, the rise of Grixis Delver, the possibilities of Blood Moons in all of them, plus some possible hate from white colour will probably be kept down to Earth. There seems to be so much fuzz about a deck that has 2.5% in popularity and has lost to both Pod and Twin in the 2 finals that have made it in pro tours & GP’s + the fact that it had not made even top 32 in the last GP I think.

Thanks for the article.
Regards, George.
