Hello, Nexus readers and friends!
Starting today, we are switching to a registration-required, moderation-approved comment system for the site. You will have to login via social media or your WordPress account to comment on any articles and pages. This will eventually become a more integrated Facebook-based system, but we are making an interim transition today as we implement the final product.
Many Magic content sites have already switched away from a purely anonymous comment system, and in light of some recent comments, we are doing the same. Criticism and feedback is always welcome, whether positive or negative. That said, we expect it to be constructive, relatively civil, and based on some degree of evidence and argument. As long as comments fit that pattern, they'll be approved for posting in all articles.

Feel free to comment on this post, or email me, if you have any questions about this change. See you all around the site!

Unsurprising given the vitriol in the past few comments sections. I get disagreeing with other people, but some of the hateful stuff that has been posted in the last 2 weeks has no place here. It’s unfortunate that it came to this, but here we are.
Good job.
I am hoping for the best on nexus.

Good!
Question:
This announcement says the future goal is Facebook-based, but I don’t really do Facebook (I’m currently logged in via Google). Will that be an issue?
I also don’t use Facebook, and am currently logged in via Twitter. Here’s hoping Facebook isn’t the only supported social login!
It’s definitely going to be tedious for you guys to have to go ahead and approve each comment, but it’s still better than having an unmoderated comments section.
I’m with Jacob here. I really don’t like Facebook, and I don’t utilize it, so will this be a future problem if I wish to continue posting comments on this site?
You should be able to use other accounts! Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, and even (I believe) WordPress accounts should all work.
Better.
Agree!
I coudn’t agree more on this.
I love this site!
Hopefully Facebook will not be the only way to log in. But other than that, I support the changes fully.
Our goal is to have options between Facebook, Twitter, Google, Reddit, and even WordPress, but we’ll have to see as we get closer to the deployment.
Please don’t make it solely facebook based, I don’t comment often, but when i do i don’t want to have to make a facebook account for it.
I have avoided the comment section entirely because of the reasons mentioned above. Looking forward to a more constructive comment section!
Same! We have a lot of great readers out there with smart Modern opinions to share, and I believe the anonymous-posting environment pushed many away. Hopefully this changes now!
I think this is a good change.
eh, not that great, but not that bad either
Great thing. But please do keep Google login. I dont’ want to make social account just for comments. It’s very annoing can’t comment most of the sites due to social media issue!
Horray!
Good. There’s too much cancer on the internet; let’s clear clear bit of that up.
