Hey David, thanks for the feedback. We are looking into on-boarding more writers right now and may add to the ranks soon. Stay tuned, and keep reading!

I’m a poor player but it’s the highlight of my week. I had been thinking about Spirits, and that Meddling Mage and/or Reflector Mage might be good enough to hold a space even though they’re not Spirits. When I saw your article on the New Hotness, and that you were playing Reflector Mage and Militia Bugler it gave me the confidence to give it a try. Thanks.

I’ve noticed that just you and Jordan are posting right now. I’m guessing that that ups the stress level on both of you, so I want to thank you both for your continued service to the community. Modern Nexus is always my first site when looking for content. It is richer in useful observations and insights than anywhere else. You and Jordan do an incredible job. If you ever talk Sheridan or Trevor, I really liked their work as well, so thank them on my behalf for all the great content that they shared.

Good luck to you and Jordan, and thanks for keeping the Nexus going as long as you have.

Since Hushwing isn’t a Spirit, there’s no way to protect it from Staticaster. Hushwing has the additional problem that it’s pretty slow compared to Humans. Honestly, I don’t think Spirits needs to go that deep against Humans. It’s Plan A is quite good and a few additional removal spells out of the sideboard are all you really need.

On a more general note, Spirits is all about the EBT abilities and shutting them off is actually quite painful. The only deck I can think of that has more is Abzan Company, so I think you want to avoid Torpor Orb effects.

As far as sideboarding goes, what do you think about something like Torpor orbs/Hushwing Griff? Yes, it turns off some of your synergies, but against the vast majority of the field, it seems like Spirits would come out on top. Hushwing can even be vialed in for added value and it can attack in the air. What does humans have that can adequately deal with something like that?
