I think the Magic universe has always been largely misunderstood by most people. It’s always been placed along with Lord of the Rings and Dungeons and Dragons when in reality it’s closer to something like Stephen King’s Dark Tower. It has its own unique multiverse. It might get to the point where the game will just go full cyberpunk if the players are willing to embrace that, at least for a set or two. Once the mainstream finally catches on to what it’s all about, people will get to appreciate how unique and mind challenging this game truly is. It truly is like playing poker on steroids. It’s long overdue.

Since Magic didn’t start in the same way as Pokemon, I wonder how much effort will be involved for Magic to go more mainstream. It’ll be interesting to see–WOTC is certainly doing their best to expand Magic’s audience!

Plus it’s a kids friendly product. It has too many things going its way. It shouldn’t be a coincidence that the newest Strixhaven set has an exclusively Japanese themed card variant. And there’s the Godzilla cards from Ikoria. WotC is not making it a secret that it’s tapping into that market. Magic still enjoys the benefit of being the card game that started it all, so these cards will always be viewed as true relics.
